I am Lesley Hardwick. I am originally from Yorkshire and
now live in the Nottingham area.
I started my working life as a Draughtswoman which I have
found to be a great help in my crafting life.
I have always had a great fascination with fabrics and
textures (can you visit a fabric shop and not touch?) and
I am constantly collecting interesting bits and pieces.
I love crafts in general, but my passion is patchwork and
quilting. There is such comfort in a hand made quilt: it is
like surrounding yourself with love and security.
My work is very diverse. Something I see one day can just
"set me off" - I'm sure a lot of quilters know that feeling.
I never make two quilts exactly the same. Even if they are
the same pattern the fabrics are different. Each one is an
original work of art in its own right.
I also believe they deserve to be displayed in public places -
Hotel foyers , Civic Centres, Galleries and Restaurants etc.
I think quilting is a brilliant medium for commemoration and
celebration, advertising, and to make some kind of statement.
Quilts make wonderful presents for birthdays, weddings,
christenings and soon become recognised as family heirlooms.
They are mood enhancing for the home, decorative and
different, not to mention comfortable on the bed and are made
to order.
Did I mention I was enthusiastic?
My work can be extremely detailed. Each project is my "baby",
and I can spend anything from two weeks to six months on a
project and love every minute.
