Spring
Size: 75 x 136cm
Inspired by the painting of the same name by Alphonse Mucha.

Spring is a true break from tradition, I have used paper and gilding to fashion the tree. Each blossom is individually cut out, painted where necessary, beaded, and hand stitched in place. The hair is embellished mohair, and the flowers around her hair and dress are each embroidered on the sewing machine before being stitched in place.
Quilted onto a felt background with a suede surround.

To be displayed at the NEC Birmingham 14th-17th August 2008
and at the Great North Quilt Show, Harrogate 5th-7th September 2008

The first of my nymphs and a delight to do. The trick here was to get the diminishing circles just right.I actually bought an embellishing machine to make the hair look realistic, and she is wearing real tights!

Free motion embroidery and layering techniques alongside applique, embellishing and making your own decorative flowers.
